Low Carbon Hot Rolled (1018-1020) Bars are used for general purpose applications. Easily machined, welded and formed - having a rougher finish with visiable surface irregularities.  

Low Carbon Cold Finish (1018-1020) Bars are produced by cold drawing. Having higher mechanical porperties and better machining characteristics. Cold Finish bars have a nice smooth clean finish, greater internal soundness, improved hardening qualities and better machinability.

C12L14 is a low carbon steel with extrodainary fast machining rates that offers ductility and a finer surface quality. Available only as Rounds or Hex Bar. Due to a higher sulpher content, it is NOT considered weldable.

Medium Carbon (1045) is used when greater strength and hardness is desired. Hot Rolled 1045 is only availble in Round Bar or Plate. When a higher degree of dimensional accuracy and straightness is required we stock Precision Ground Shafting.
